Assemblyman Tri Ta Calls on Governor Newsom to
Halt July 1 Gas Tax Increase

SB 1 (Chapter 5, Statutes of 2017) calls for an annual increase to the excise tax on gas on July 1.  CDTFA released the amount tied to inflation, a nearly 7.5% increase.

ORANGE COUNTY—Today, Assemblyman Tri Ta sent a letter to the Governor asking to halt the gas tax increase set to take effect on July 1, 2023.  The tax will increase from 54 cents to 58 cents.

“Californians are already facing astronomical costs for gas.  The statewide average today is $4.87 per gallon, over $1.30 above the national average.   With uncertain economic times on the horizon, now is not the time to ask drivers to fork over any more money for taxes,” said Assemblyman Ta.  “Hardworking Californians are already struggling to make ends meet and allowing this increase to come into effect adds insult to injury.”
