Assemblyman Tri Ta’s Legislation to Expand Educational Opportunity Signed into Law

Assembly Bill 1173 expands educational opportunities for high school students to learn career skills.

ORANGE COUNTY—Today, Assemblyman Tri Ta announced that his legislation, AB 1173, has been signed into law by the Governor after it passed the Senate and Assembly earlier this month.

“California’s community colleges play a crucial role in educating the state’s future workforce and providing an accessible education for Californians. I am thankful for the bipartisan support AB 1173 received, the local community colleges who backed this bill, and for the Governor’s decision to sign this important legislation into law,” said Assemblyman Ta.

AB 1173 would require a school district that is planning to hold a college or career fair to notify a community college district that has overlapping jurisdiction of the event. With the decline in enrollment in the California Community College system, this legislation will ensure Californians are aware of the educational and vocational opportunities available to them in California’s community colleges.

AB 1173 was chaptered into law on June 29, 2023.
